The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Statement on HISD Superintendent Richard A. Carranza and the future of HISD

The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce thanks Richard Carranza for his leadership as the Superintendent of HISD. The Chamber wishes him well in his new role as Chancellor of New York City’s school system. “Our focus now turns to helping find a new leader that will make the best interests of students, parents, teachers, and administrators his or her foremost priority. HISD faces significant challenges, and the new Superintendent must bring with them a long-term vision – as well as a commitment to carrying it out – to putting the state’s largest school district on a more sustainable path,” said Dr. Laura Murillo, President & CEO, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. As it was with the hiring of Carranza, the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be intimately involved with the selection process of finding HISD’s next leader. We look forward to working with HISD to identify a new Superintendent that will lead HISD through the difficult challenges that lie ahead.
